Listening and speaking for daily conversation
The subject provides students with basic skills in comprehending simple oral discourses through both recorded and live voice of native speakers. Materials are presented in a variety of short functional texts with exercises covering sound recognition and discrimination as well as stresses and intonation and their meanings. Moreover, materials are also presented in a variety of short functional texts with exercises focused on answering questions, both factual and inferential in nature, following a given text and on making inferences from it. Students’ classroom activities include individual work, pair work, and group work.
The listening is integrated with speaking. it aims to develop the Basic English speaking skills and competency of its students. The objectives in particular that will be focused on are self confidence, pronunciation, vocabulary expansion, function and fluency, Syntax (Grammar) and Semantics (What is said and what is meant). Students will be presented with material at the beginning of each lesson that will be learnt through question/answer activities, classroom discussion, and role playing and pair work methodologies. The course consists of 10% theoretical work, 20% of field study/research and 70% practical application in the classroom. The assessment is based on attendance, participation, homework, quizzes, and final exam.
Listening and speaking for formal setting
This subject provides students from intermediate to advanced skills in comprehending oral discourses through both recorded and live voice of native speakers. Materials are presented in a variety of functional texts with exercises focused on extracting specific information from a given text and giving details of it. In addition, materials are also presented in a variety of functional texts with exercises focused on identifying cultural contents of a given text, deducing meanings from contexts, discovering topics and main ideas, recognizing discourse markers and language functions, and taking notes. Students’ classroom activities include individual work, pair work, and group work. Evaluation on students’ achievement is based on student’s attendance, classroom participation, home assignments, the mid-semester test, and the final test.
In the speaking area, activities are established to provide students with knowledge and practices in formal English through various activities. This course mainly consists of activities on the students’ part. For providing knowledge on real formal English, meetings with native speakers and those who have experiences in the use of formal English are arranged. In addition, the students are also equipped with the skills on how to make and deliver argumentative speeches. Activates and topics included are receiving guests, guiding, presentation, and formal meetings, role playing as a speaker, moderator, note-taker, and also active audience. The assessment is based on attendance, participation, homework, quizzes, and final exam.
Basic reading and writing
The course aims to develop basic competencies of reading skills such as getting general and specific information from the text, getting the main ideas and detailed information from the text, etc, as well as build the development of the skills of inferencing, analyzing, synthesizing, and speed reading. The course also aims at expanding vocabulary mastery up to 5500 words and relevant grammatical structures used. In order to aid the language development, both simplified and authentic texts of general topics may be used. While individual performances are noted, pair and group work should be encouraged. Assessment of success is based on the student’s attendance, portfolios and mid-term as well as final examinations.
The course also gives learning experiences in writing good and correct English sentences. Classroom activities are focused on grammatical accuracy and writing mechanics which include spelling, punctuation, and capitalization in various sentence forms: simple, compound, complex; negative and positive; statement and questions; active and passive; direct and indirect; prepositions related adjectives and adverbs. Furthermore, the course gives learning experiences in writing paragraphs of good and correct English using various expository modes. The topics are focused on various types of sentence forms: classification, analysis, definition, process analysis, composition and contrast, exemplification, and combinations of them. Classroom activities include writing on the whiteboard, discussing grammatical mistakes; outside classroom activities are in the forms of individual assignments of at least ten pieces of writing. Evaluation is based on student’s attendance, the sum of scores on the individual assignments, mid semester and final tests.
Academic reading and writing
The course focuses on the development of independent reading ability by the use of full-scale texts of various disciplines and guiding the students in selecting texts or references suitable for the completion of particular tasks, such as oral or written academic presentation. While individual performances are noted, pair and group work should be encouraged. Assessment of success is based on student’s attendance, portfolios and mid-term as well as final examinations.
The writing section provides the students with learning experiences in writing several good English paragraphs which are integrated in one topic involving various forms of expository modes. The course also gives learning experiences in writing articles in English for Seminar, and other scientific writing about various topics in the form of essay type. Evaluation is based on student’s attendance, the sum total of scores on individual assignments, mid semester and final tests.
Computer Literacy (0ffline computer)
This course enables student to have sufficient knowledge as well as to implement the computer skills for the sake of English teaching and learning. This includes the programs of Microsoft office. The students will be assessed based on the real work of the use of Microsoft office programs in teaching and learning.

This course aims to provide the students with understanding of the roots of words, syntax, semantic, sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics. This will make students competent in understanding the word derivation, and the development of language used in society.

This course aims at providing students with understanding of how Quran views education and its use in community. This course also equips students with ability to give perspective on profane phenomena of education through the lens of defined knowledge in the Quranic texts.
This course deals with major theories of or approaches to language teaching as well as their application, both as proposed and as practiced, with reference to EFL teaching/learning. This course is both theoretical and practical. The topics to be covered include: EFL teacher competencies, major approaches to and methods of language teaching, developments of EFL teaching in Indonesia, language teaching techniques, language syllabus models, material development, roles of fluency and accuracy, English varieties. Students are required to: (a) make an academic paper on a topic dealing with any of the areas mentioned above about 1500-2000 words long, or (b) develop teaching materials for a lesson of 80 minutes’ duration (due before semester test), (c) sit mid-semester and semester tests.

This course equips students with the opportunity to apply principles of language assessment in English language teaching situations. This provides students with ability to create a variety of assessment tools based on the principles and various approaches to language and assessment, to construct assessment devices for English learning based on language course outline used in elementary, junior and senior high schools and to critically evaluate the practice of assessment at schools.

This course aims at providing students with some working knowledge on language teaching and learning with special emphasis on curriculum implementation, teaching techniques, teaching-learning process, and communicative and language teaching. This course also helps students with some competencies to identify some sources of instructional issues and problems and to find out solution using research findings, references and theories.

This course provides sets of knowledge, trains a set of skills. This unit is an attempt to arouse students’ awareness toward scientific researches particularly those of educational researches related to language teaching, English language teaching particularly for Indonesian native speakers. The knowledge covers ontology, epistemology and axiology of the researches. The skills cover the search, the titling and the theoretizing research problems and the choosing of the form and the content of instruments with the discussion and the summarizing of data analysis. The set of attitudes cover rational, objective, and critical, skeptical (open), cooperative, and responsible related to the attitude to do the research.
